Greenslopes House Gardening Club

One of our support workers recently shared a few updates with us of the Greenslopes House gardening club! This club offers an opportunity for the residents at Greenslopes House to participate in a social activity and take on the responsibility of looking after their garden every day.

Gardening has often been linked to mindfulness, an approach used to manage mental health, also well-recognized as Horticultural Therapy. Through mindfulness, focus and concentration on the immediate task (in this case, gardening) allow us to reduce our negative thoughts often brought on by symptoms experienced within feelings of anxiety and depression.

Barbara, a Greenslopes House resident, has been part of the gardening club for quite some time. This month, she planted some more vegetable seedlings, making sure the kitchen can enjoy more of our fresh produce. Pak Choi, Spinach and Basil were all harvested to be used in some of this month’s cooking!

We love to see the residents get involved in this activity, joining in by watering, caring, and surveying the garden beds for more produce. Luckily, the residents have been able to enjoy the sun in the cooler weather, and we’re looking forward to watching them grow more in Spring!

Our amazing support workers (Mitch and Iain) are looking to make new raised garden beds for the house! If you have any spare sleepers or cut off pine (1.5m – 2.4m), please email marketing@civitasgroup.co and we can organize to get these to the house.
